The Birdsville Track

The Birdsville Track
This dirt road inland highway from the far north of South Australia traverses some hundreds of kilometres of desert to cross the border of the state of Queensland. It essentially links two extremely remote outback towns - Marree in SA and Birdsville Qld. It is a dusty, corrugated dirt road, impassable if there is rain.
Although this was taken from a sightseeing plane over Lake Eyre, we have driven this long dirt track, to Birdsville and beyond, on a camping journey to far North Queensland.

When we made our trip to Australia many years ago, the Ghan ended up in Alice Spring. From there to Darwin we had a bus. The driver then made every bend a sensation, announcing it half an hour before and then every few minutes, until it was finally celebrated with loud applause… ((•‿•))

Nicely composed Diana............I like the way the road divides the image diagonally! It looks a bit bleak there (even for a desert), but there are some interesting textures and I like the muted colour palette.

The BIG country Diane. Always good to experience these places from this height. Sincerely hope that the country survives the many devastating fires and then floods.

It takes some spirit to live there today.
It is not a bend but the applause is also mine.
Take care .
