are there many of them ?

Unfortunately, yes, and many other oversized vehicles. That North Western area of Australia is filled with gigantic mining concerns. There are roads and private rail tracks which transport millions of tonnes of iron ore to ports to ship to China. Then on the coast are massive gas plants converting the natural gas which they are tapping into LNG for export to China and India. All these activities are increasing. The road trains carry mining machinery, housing, fuel etc to the mines in the deserts.
It is very remote, with fuel available only every 200-300 km on the road....so it seems very odd that the giant trucks are there in such numbers.

I remind how to overtake this road trains, but its drivers mostly are very cooperative.
