I find it really strange that the telephone kiosk and the postbox are the British designs. Obviously this orginated when Australia was viewed as an appendage of the Empire, but that was such a long time ago. Still, they make for interesting photographs, don't they.

Thanks, John and HFF. Yes, Moss Vale was prime colonial territory when land grants were made in the early settlement days. In the late 1800s, there even was a Vice-Regal residence there for the Governor, who apparently used to travel down with his entourage on a special train. I think that goes a long way to explaining the British Empire overtones.

What an absolutely lovely and nostalgic post-office. To have the chance of going to such a post-office I'd even consider sending one or the other picture post-card to friends. And I recognize the mailbox pillar from the previous photo :-)

A very good friend of ours lived in Woolongong for many years. In the meantime he is retired and lives now in Maryborough, where we visited him some years ago.

A very British look to this scene George. There is still a buoyant market for red phone boxes over here. Those remaining in situ (as in our village) now contain defibrillator equipment. Others are used as a book exchange. HFF and happy weekend.

If the phone box works that would be a miracle. None of them work in the UK now; and as far as the pillar box is concerned, that might soon go out of fashion. Royal Mail is thinking of cutting back on deliveries, and people are sending fewer things because of the high price of stamps. Nice to see these golden oldies being appreciated.
