Pauline
I am writing with a heavy heart to advise you that, after a long fight with a particularly nasty cancer, my lovely wife Pauline is no longer with us. She slipped away quietly this morning (13 March). I know that many of you will be greatly saddened by this news. If it is any consolation, I can tell you that she went peacefully and that she was comfortable with her departure.
Also a PiP from long ago. I shall continue to be largely absent from ipernity for a while longer.
GO SOFTLY
Go softly now,
On wings of wind,
With steps that leave
No trail in the morning dew.
Drift quietly away,
And join the light
That burns my heart
And sears my soul.
Lift up and fly!
And tarry now,
But leave the pain
And vanish from this heavy place.
Go softly now
On wings of wind,
Reach out and touch
Eternal Light awaiting your sweet soul.

My heart goes out to you as you do the last loving services that those who leave us behind ask of us, no doubt with a heart full of sorrow. You picked two beautiful images and moving words to let us all remember her as she flies away, freed from illness and pain. To me, who did not have the privilege of meeting her, the image that her name will always bring to mind is the emotion on her face after that parachute jump that she had for so long dreamt of.
So sorry for your terrible loss, George, and wishing you the strength you will need to hold yourself and your family up in the face of it.
