Burnt forest

Burnt forest
Pauline is on a new treatment, which allows us more spare time, so for the second time in over twelve months we went for a sightseeing drive. We covered about 250km, almost all burnt, with only small sections near towns and some houses saved from the devastating bushfires of late 2019-early 2020. After more than six months, many areas of forest remain like this. Stitched panorama, view large.

Günter Klaus, John FitzGerald, Gudrun, Rainer Blankermann and 25 other people have particularly liked this photo

How sad to see the devastation the fires caused in Australia George, and who thought there were still more bad times to come! It is still a stunning picture! I hope your wife's treatment goes well. It is good that you have more spare time to spend together. My best wishes to you both.

Yes it is recovering but what a horrid sight, kind of like what i am doing putting off going back to my shots after the fire. The main part is we can see life being renewed, I just hope that is also true with your wife. In the end it is all about family and being together I know from my own parents In NZ one out of hospital the other in ,it truly seems like it is never just a shower these day. Totally wishing both of you the very best.

Many thanks indeed, Steve. We enjoyed the outing, but it was sobering to see some of the damage.

How much of this scenery is likely to regenerate, George? I know that here they sometimes deliberately set fire to heath-land in order for heather to regenerate. It's so good to hear that you and Pauline have more time to spend together. Long may that continue.

It's hard to say how much will regenerate, Amelia, it depends on the type of vegetation and how hot the fire was locally (a factor of various things including slope of the ground, prevailing wind etc). In some areas there is regrowth happening, in others still no sign of regeneration - it is quite worrying. This was an exceptional fire season, driven by climate change, extreme drought etc, Many thanks for your kind wishes.

It's good to hear you are getting more time together and are able to drive and sightsee. It must be sad though to see this devastation even though it makes a beautiful image. New growth will come but the loss of the old is hard to take.

Great documentary capture of the aftermath of the massive wild fires. Hope Pauline continues to improve and recovers full health again. Stay strong! Stay well!

How devastating to see this...it's impossible to wrap ones head around so much ruin...it just can't compute, can it?

I am glad you two have been able to get out a bit, I hope that Pauline does well with this treatment. Wishing you all the best!

It's quite frightening to see how long it takes to regenerate! Only small shrubs are green....
