Golden Orb Spider
Today I was out with my local Landcare group, removing weeds in the nature reserve, when I almost walked face first into this spider, hanging in a substantial web. It is a female Golden Orb spider - the male is quite tiny in comparison.

I´m proud to be here...I´m an arachnophobian ;)
tiabunna club has replied to Andy Rodker clubAndy Rodker club has replied to tiabunna clubThat was the end of the walk for me, anyway!.
The skin irritations and sheer pain of it all (and I am usually stoic!) led me to rush headlong back to the chemist's in the village (2 hours away) for any relief I could get. I was given some ointment, it didn't really work and I spent an uncomfortable bus journey back to Madrid and home. No sleep that night and I took myself to A&E in the morning. (Believe me, I was first in the queue!). They just laughed gaily and gave me the appropriate pills and cream and yes, I did return to normality in a few hours.
But believe me, you don't EVER want to cross paths with a line of processionary pine moth caterpillars on a jolly outing!

I had to stifle a giggle...I've walked face-first into two different orb weaver webs and I'm surprised you didn't hear me shrieking from where I was! Age 12 and age...45 or so...and no matter how much I love spiders, webs in the face reduce me to a screaming lunatic! LOL...few things are more frightening, and it's so silly. They have no interest in us, are more frightened than we are, they drop to the ground instantly and do not land on us...but my automatic response kicks in and I'm INSANE! :D LOLOL...
Glad you stopped in time and could share this lovely spider with all of us! :)
A ne pas déranger !!
superb close up !
