Whither photography?

Whither photography?
Today I saw an online news item in which Canon suggest the camera market could drop by 50% in two years, as smartphones take over. tinyurl.com/yd76xmqn As I've been playing with a new phone the past few days (see recent images) the growing capability of phones has really come home to me. One of the two images above was taken with my phone, the other with a 50mm lens on a full frame DSLR (slight editing to crop, adjust some tones, but little else). If you've a few minutes to blow this up as large as possible you may care to try guessing what took which. I much prefer a 'real' camera, but this little exercise over the past few days really has been food for thought.

Thank you very much for your kind comments, Peggy. I found that buying a phone can become an extended process (maybe it's just because I become obsessive on detail:-)). I'll drop you an email later with some leads that may help.

You raise the same question I had for the photography teacher at the TAFE here last year. Why aren't the better P&Ss and the DSLRs equally smart?

Good sized sensors and variable focal length / interchangeable lenses + all the smarts = BRILLIANT! When can I get one?

Followed links on Janet's post, I arrived here to make my guess.

Spontaneously without not yet reading previous comments, I first thought the image on top is taken with DSLR. But after staring the full size image for a moment, I now think the one in bottom is taken with DSLR.

Curious to see if that is the case...

And looks like I should have trusted my intuition. I first thought that especially the water drops on upper one are sharper. But then I let my overall opinion on such things as noise and colors to take the lead. Although, actually the one in bottom also do seem to be more "noisy".
