Nesting Adelies

Nesting Adelies
Nesting Adelie penguins, with the plateau ice cliffs in the distance behind. We're accustomed to seeing these penguins wearing their 'dinner suits' - sadly, when at home, they aren't usually so immaculate. :) If viewing the location, I recommend changing to 'satellite' view.

Thank you, my friends for your kind comments and faves. Sadly, penguins have toilet habits that are a little 'casual' - and the guano accumulates. Which leads to the need for laundry services. :)

o0o they are so funny to see ... and I wonder, are they
"moulting" so to speak ... being young they are slowly
getting their correct colours ... I am not sure ... perhaps
it gets a little "muddy" at times ;-) we always think of
them being so spick and span ...;-) dinner suits as
rightly say ;-) but how lovely to see them like this in
a natural way oOo

Thank you, Bev. These are the adults, nesting and incubating eggs in rookeries that have been used for countless generations - but never have rain to wash away the guano. So what you see is the result ...

o0o I did wonder if it was from them nesting ;-) I bet they are
relieved when they can eventually have a good old splash around ;-) oOo

I see the one on the left is wearing a dinner suit and is probably one of the management team. The focal point for me though George, is the neatly cut ice cliffs.

I suspect you are on the mark about the one to the left, Neil. :) Yes, the setting was stunning. It's a little hard to tell, but those ice cliffs are probably 70-80 ft high.
