DC3s at Essendon, 1965

DC3s at Essendon, 1965
I'm just home from travels and still catching up, so here's a favourite archival image, copied from a Kodachrome slide.

These two DC3s (then still in regular airline use) were at Melbourne's Essendon Airport in 1965. The nearest was owned by Bush Pilots Airways, the other by Ansett - both airlines now long since gone and the airport turned to general aviation following the opening of Tullamarine Airport a few years later..

Good old DC3! This photo has a surrealistic quality. Maybe it's the 1960s color. Anyway, I like this a lot. How do you copy from slides? My brother and I were just talking about how we could see Dad's old slides again (maybe not all 5,000 of them!) short of finding an old projector somewhere.

I'm glad you like this, Diane. I think the surreal feeling is that the aircraft are isolated by a slight ridge, so there is no other context. You might find this article I wrote several years ago helpful for slide copying. www.ipernity.com/blog/tiabunna/4248640 I've also seen it suggested that putting the slides on a light table, then photographing with a macro lens, is a workable approach (though I haven't tried it). I still have far more slide copying to do and I think the first thing is to be very selective which ones to copy (that cuts the work down a lot), the second is to clean the inevitable dust from them before copying. Good luck with the project!
