Crabeater Seals

Crabeater Seals
Copied from an old slide. These seals are reasonably common in the pack ice right around the coast of Antarctica. They largely ignored the ship going by.

How times change! Today we think nothing of blazing away with endless digital shots. On the day I took this, I noted in my diary with some surprise that (on the trip to that point) I had "just finished my second roll of 36 exposure Kodachrome!.

Excellent shot and I well remember having to be very careful with film and not wanting to run out while hiking or traveling.

Yes, I had about 15 rolls of Kodachrome and 5 of Ektachrome for 15 months (plus a good supply of b/w). As you say, it cost a lot! The other problem was that, apart from some Ektachrome and b/w which we developed ourselves, there was no way of viewing any of the photos before our return to Australia
