August is here, first wet, then sunny.

Saponaria officinalis is a common perennial plant from the carnation family (Caryophyllaceae). This plant has many common names, including common soapwort, bouncing-bet, crow soap, wild sweet William, and soapweed. There are about 20 species of soapworts altogether. I have found these pretty flowering plants in several locations here, they are always growing in hugepatches in sandy soil near the sea. This is the Korean plant though somewhat deeper incolour than the wild ones I saw so many of.

I have found these pretty flowering plants in several locations here, they are always growing in huge patches in sandy soil near the sea. This is just one of many areas on Strand Bakke showing how they grow, the soil here is sand at the top of our coastal hillside.
