this rococo gravestone of the mid c18 carved with mourner, tree and tomb, though illegible, remains beautiful, and I for one am appreciative of the work done in clearance and upkeep here, and that this burial ground has not been cleared in the name of efficiency and utility, as have only too many others.

the churchyard has plenty of good c18/19 gravestones , these are later c18 and have the curved tops and reliefs of grieving females kneeling by tombs, angels and swags that denote the period

probably a c18 tombstone, though quite fancifully rococo for a non-conformist gravestone of that date. seemingly with two coats of arms held up by two putti. at first I thought there was a stuart connection to the lower clearer shield, with its lion rampant and its checky chief, but there is no clear tressure, and it seems closer to warren of lincoln. of course, without tinctures the family can't be known for sure, though there must be burial records somewhere that could narrow it down.
