high easter church, essex
same design whichever way up, this supposed mortar has two bowls and four spouts in all. it's meant to have been used for leading glass, but is very ornate for practical use, and would be harder to heat and heavier to carry around than a more practical metal pot; so what was it for ? it was found built into the chancel.
