lincoln cathedral
vaulting over the s.w. chapel, built c.1240 and used once as the consistory court. now a shop, with a foul false ceiling preventing appreciation of this unusual vault, which is like four bays of quadrapartite vaulting pushed up in the middle. the vault opposite in the morning chapel rests its centre on a pillar, but this one looks forwards to the experiments of bristol etc.
