hanbury street chapel, spitalfields, london

hanbury street chapel, spitalfields, london
there is a small mystery raised by these (incorrectly painted) royal arms in the old huguenot chapel built in 1714; they aren't the arms of that date at all, but are those of william and mary, having the arms of nassau in pretense over the old stuart arms, and so date from 1689-1707. the plaque outside claiming them as the arms of james II is wrong, not its only mistake, and of course the colours on the shield are wildly wrong too. I expect one of the varied occupant churches brought them with them. the chapel is used as a market hall nowadays.
