trinity college, oxford
detail of swiss glass of 1595 now in the hall of the college, showing two men dressed up to the nines as halbardiers; bernhart bruner has the rebus of a fountain on his shield, and seems from his merchant's mark and the scene above to be a miller in real life, whilst his friend jorg knecht von hynwill , for all his fancy name and possibly heraldic shield, may be a horse dealer, as the scene above shows two men striking a deal over three horses. what was it that brought these two together to be immortalised in glass in such a way ? possibly both members of some volunteer civil defence group, more fuss than fight?
