east horsley towers, surrey

east horsley towers, surrey
main arch into entrance courtyard, with porch on left, and rheinish tower on right over the lake. the first earl of lovelace, byron's son in law, rebuilt a dull tudoresque house of 1820=9 by adding towers, bridges, walls and a cloister to his own design between 1847-60. he also rebuilt much of the village and his own mausoleum in the same style.
