canterbury cathedral cloister

canterbury cathedral cloister
the north walk of the great cloister, given early english arcading in 1226-36 when the refectory behind it was rebuilt. the shafts of the vaulting of 1397-1412 cut mercilessly into this, as happened with so many other cloisters. they just don't seem to have cared how the new work related to the old, nor how destructive it was.
