#14 A book in a different language to yours.
I thought I can't choose books in English or Swedish, because they sort of are my languages. So, I went to Tampere University Library and into section of foreign fiction. We have such books because Literary Studies is one of our study programs.
I guess this is in Russian. In a hurry I didn't even bother to find who's the author. So, I leave it to you to find out what the book is about. Poetry, I guess ...
And before anyone asks, Sami is not my language either =D

Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to Wierd Folkersma clubSami as a Finnish forename comes from Samuel, and has nothing to do with Sami people and language. Just a coincidence. When I spent few years up north, I tried to learn some Sami language though, but way too difficult for me. There are some same or very similar words, and even the grammar, but otherwise it is difficult.
An example at YLE Areena

Heidiho club has replied to Sami Serola (inactiv… club... 1 week I was crossing the SÁPMI area in the North. May be, Sami-people come from the same genetic pool like Inouit in Greenland (f.e. only) ... absolute different to blonde "typical scandinavians". And NO chance to understand only one word of their speech ...

Also the studies on history, language and culture supports that they have been more like "aboriginals" moved to "Scandinavia" from south, soon after the ice age was over. Vikings and other "invaders" coming after them took over the lands and pressed the peaceful Sami people to move further up north. For example in southern parts of Finland there are especially a lot of place names that has origins in Sami language. It is normal in languages that invaders killed the men and took women as mother of their children, and then the male vocabulary took over on male activities like hunting. But female vocabulary like names of places and objects of home passed from mothers to daughters.
This is what I have learned andheard, and not necessary very scientific fact though ;-)
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to JanSo, listening a book in foreign language would be easy... =)
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to Diederik Santema clubOr I walk back to that library and find out the book's name and author =D
If I only remember what book it was....
Sami Serola (inactiv… club has replied to Clickity ClickI learned in school, but forgot the most of it. But until now I'm able to read this kyrillic letters ... there's a melodic, smooth sound around.
