Stourhead Gardens.

Stourhead Gardens.
Showing the Bristol High Cross and cottages. The Bristol High Cross C15, early C16 and 1633. Originally in 3 segments, it stood at the street crossing in the centre of mediaeval Bristol. It was taken down and removed to College Green in 1736, but dismantled in 1762, and was moved to Stourhead by Henry Hoare in 1765 to place in his developing gardens. This is just the top segment and it underwent restoration in 1894 and 1981. and stands at the entrance to the gardens in Stourton.

I love the contrast in architectural styles between the Bristol High Cross and the terrace of cottages. I love also the way you have framed the service vehicle with the tree trunk and branches.

In your second photo, I love the textures in the architectural feature. The framing by the vegetation is very effective.

The wee robin on the bench looks magnificent. I was at Dumbarton Fairy Trail yesterday, with the lady, who adds the decorations, and the wee robin that resides there gave us a nice song, and posed long enough for me to take a pic.

Cheers,

Joe

Thank you very much for all your kind comments Joe. There were a couple of friendly robins around the gardens. I think they must be very used to people, which makes it easier to get a picture of them.

I love the robin's song Joe and I look forward to seeing your picture.
Cheers, Rosa.

A nice set of images, bringing the High Cross to the garden would have been a cheap way to get a very elaborate folly, it would be unfortunate if a historical society in Bristol decided they wanted it back !! I hope you have a nice day Rosalyn despite the rain

Thank you very much Peter. Here is a link telling the story of the Bristol High Cross and where the rest of it is now. Happy Wednesday.

Nice composition Rosa. I like the way you've framed the image under the trees. The cottages look lovely and the High Cross makes a very impressive garden feature. I see from the link you posted on Peter's comment that it's had a very chequered history!

I like the images in the PiPs - especially the robin, which is just delightful.

I'm guessing there will be more to come from Stourhead (I hope)!

Thank you very much Keith. When I worked at Stourhead in 1990-92, one of the cottages was a Post Office stores. A shame it has gone, as it seemed very well used to me. As for the Bristol Cross, I think bringing this top section to Stourhead saved it, and it does look impressive at the entrance to the gardens.

I am pleased you like the PiP's and there just might be a few more pictures to come ;-))

Thank you very much Füsun.
The groundsmen and women were working hard around the estate.
The robin was very sweet and I think, quite used to people.

Best wishes,
Rosa.

Thank you very much Sarah. Who doesn't like a robin, they are so cute. Unfortunately he wasn't singing, but maybe he would have if I'd had a few crumbs for him!!
Take care and have a good evening Sarah.

Hi Peter,
I am pleased you like the series, thank you.
Some people find enough there to spend the day looking around and some just walk around the lake. I love to spend all the time I can there.
Take care and have a good weekend,
Rosa.
