Hi Rosa,
Very interesting effect, so as to focus on the boat in the centre. Nice!
There is a standard size for canal boats, and the tunnels and viaducts (especially Pontcysyllte) were built only slightly wider. The water restricted flow around the bows keeps the boat from hitting the sides, so no steering is needed. Very clever.. Hence there is always room for two boats in the locks!!

That is very interesting information Peter, thank you. When I was on one of these boats last year and we entered a couple of locks with another boat, they are so friendly and even offered us some of their wine on the way up ;-)
