The Refectory Pulpit.

The Refectory Pulpit.
Roger de Montgomery, who built the Castle, also provided Shrewsbury with an abbey, found on the far side of the river, close to the English Bridge. This is the open air Reader's Pulpit, which belonged to the vanished refectory opposite the Abbey.

The red stone against the lighter stone is part of many old buildings in Shrewsbury Ian. One of the churches is half and half. I think the original wall that it was a part of must have been the same colour.
