For 'World Photography Day' - 19th August 2020

I chose this particular abstract photo because I like to remember that perfection is not art, because perspective is important, because to me, the feelings photography gives me is more important than the subject.

Günter Klaus, Mikus, , Old Owl and 48 other people have particularly liked this photo

Excellent approach! Something I had to learn myself. And a good guide line is to remember that the audience does not know what the "reality" looked like. So, photography does not need to be "realistic".

Thanks! This one is more realistic than most of my abstracts, but I thought it still worked.

thanks, William. i don't often write words to go with photos, but since i added this to my newly formed 'World Photography Day' group, I needed to state why I chose this photo.

I love this Laura............the light is gorgeous and I love the pastel colours. The delicate looking silhouetted branches are perfect.

A wonderful abstract image - it has an ethereal look and feel..!!

I totally agree, Laura!
I go for feelings and impressions over exactness, every time. It's why I use my mobile phone only, for its spontenaity (no tripod, lenses, etc - although I did very many years ago, and certainly enjoy the results of those who do!)

Yes, while this is with my DSL, I take many more photos with my phone. And I love using the new Polaroid Originals film for the same reason. It's nice to have the freedom to create, not just always replicate. And yes, I certainly appreciate those who take the time to use excellent lenses and cameras. I still own one or two. There's nothing like a photo from film. I can often spot them online, even though they have been turned into digital objects there. There's a quality about them that pulls at me.

A wonderful image Laura, so called photographers have become obsessed with image quality 'pixel peeping' and have lost track of the overall appearance of the image, the same people who try to say you have to spend ages tweaking it on a computer before it's worth considering. This is why I'm enjoying using a 47 year old lens it's not super sharp the colours are not so saturated but it can produce images with character. Next year it would be good if the ima could post a front page photo for World Photography Day

Thank you, Peter. I love knowing that you have a 47 year old lens. Art can be made with any tool, one just needs to know ones tool really well.

Regarding World Photography Day - we were busy working on an updated front page, when someone mentioned it was World Photography Day. That's why I started the group. If you'd like, you could join the group and make the suggestion in the discussions - that way it won't be forgotten for next year. And you could add a photo this year. I'm accepting photos until September 2nd. How the group will be used is up for discussion. You can see that already starting in the group discussions.

I like the backdrop of vertical bands of subtle colour and shadow silhouetting the delicate branches.

Thank you so much, Doug. I've photographed those branches so many ways over the years, but i thought this one seemed to bring out something special about them, and maybe your description is why.
