Walross
Natural History Museum Bern – Walrus
Saturday Self-Challenge – "Animal in b&w", Sa. 13.04.2019
When you stroll around in Bern very seldom it can happen that you see such a walrus. But the probability increases massively if you go to the Natural History Museum. That's where I took this. :-)
➽ PIP 1: mountain goat. Occurrence: Switzerland.
➽ PIP 2: when you strolled around in Bern 65 mio. years ago then it could happen that you meet this friendly smiling guy. ;-)

polytropos club has replied to Daniela Brocca clubJa, dieser hier ist ausgestopft.

polytropos club has replied to Esther clubNo, I took it trough the glass panel of the museum. Fortunately it was quite dark, so there was no reflection. :)
polytropos club has replied to Boarischa Krautmo clubzum Glück noch bei uns ansässig.
Born and raised in San Francisco, we have a huge museum overflowing with these things. All kinds of animals...you name it, there's some creepy diorama complete with a pair or more of the animals being showcased. I remember loving this museum when I was young because you DO get to see SO MANY KINDS of animals...and then...I grew up. Now these places just give me the CREEPS and fill me with disgust...I know, I know...I'm not really being fair but omg...it's just so awful. The whole history of this barbaric display is totally incredible.
Today only a tiny fraction exists of the ?acres? of displays once found at the museum that housed these things. Instead, there are ok/reasonable habitats for living animals instead. San Francisco was one of those places where barbaric zoos were a huge deal...things are so much better but still. Ick.
(I cannot STAND to go into places that display dead animals on the wall...there are no words.)
polytropos club has replied to Janet Brien clubBut first of all, for me the walrus is quite cute with its big mustache and the waddling way of walking. And they are not dangerous for us! :-)
Then there is the problem of presentation the animals to the people. Should we do it in a zoo where the animals can never be kept in an appropriate way? Or should we do it in a natural history museum, where the animals are dead but no longer suffering? In my opinion the museum is a good compromise :-)
polytropos club has replied to Puchinpappy clubYes, it's presented in a good way so there is no reflection.
