The White Tower
Construction of the Tower was begun by William, the Conqueror c. 1078 and completed 10 years after his death in 1097. It was the first structure built in the tower complex. It is 90 feet to the battlements, 118 feet from east to west, and 107 feet from north to south. Its walls are 18 feet thick at the base and 11 feet thick at the top.
