York has large sections of the city's fortified walls still standing. Parts of them date from Roman times and other elements, like the entrance gateways or 'Bars' are from medieval period. Micklegate Bar armorial - York - August 1989

This coat of arms has been identified as that of Sir John Lister-Kaye, 4th Baronet, who was Lord Mayor of York 1737-38. That would tie in with the date of reconstruction shown in the panel beneath the arms.
