The bottom right hand corner of this print has been restored. The damaged area was part of the road. Several woodworm holes have also been filled.

This group of photographs of Eastbourne and the surrounding area is also from my grandfather, H.T.Sutters' collection of prints from the late 1800s. The originals have been given to the Eastbourne Local History Society.

I was intrigued to see this lifeboat under sail as late as 1930. The caption is as was written on the back of the print.

Shared for Vintage Theme Park's weekly theme - People - there are a few here ! A cropped version of an old print, from a collection I inherited from my grandfather. Photographed by the companies that made postcards, these were about 8" x 6" and on fairly thin paper. There were almost a hundred in the collection mainly of southern England, from Cheltenham south and parts of Wales. I scanned them all and then sent the originals to the relevant local history archives.
This view is definitely worth enlarging.

Uploaded for the Vintage Photos Theme Park Group. This comes from a book from the inter-war period, extolling the virtues of the use of electricity in the home and the garage. It was clearly aimed at women and sees them as a major force in the modernisation of daily life, emphasizing the labour and time-saving qualities of electrical applicances.
As one would expect there are a number of photos of other appliances in the book. Some are photos and others are graphic illustrations, including advertisements for appliances and services.

A negative in the adjacent folder revealed this scene. Also in there were family photos which were dated to 1929, which is how I dated this photo. A search through Google images confirmed that this was a Blackpool location.
I appear to have uploaded this photo twice, but as both have comments attached, I will leave both in my albums, but ensure that they only appear once in groups.

This was among the family albums and loose photos I inherited. I have no idea of its relevance to the family or exactly what is being depicted. The flag might suggest a national or military celebration. Despite the prevalence of boaters, from their clothing, the group appears to be quite mixed in status, possibly a company or works outing.

One from the Pritchard & Sadler family archives. I cannot easily recognize any of the family in this shot, although it could be my mother with her brother, in the centre between the railings. Uploaded for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of swimming pools.
I established that the family had visited Blackpool around this time. I then had to track down old photos of Blackpool at the time. That was unsuccessful. It wasn't until I started searching for diving boards and discovered that these structures were called diving towers, that I actually made progress and found out where this one was and what it was called.
I appear to have uploaded this photo twice, but as both have comments attached, I will leave both in my albums, but ensure that they only appear once in groups.
Brixham in 1936 by J Sutters

A small group of four photos, taken by my father in 1936-8. They were scanned from negatives, which included some for which there are prints, in an album dated 1936. It is not known whether this image is the right way round. The picture certainly looks best this way round.
Other negatives in the same packet are of scenes in Cornwall, so it is likely that these three are also Cornish ports, or possibly Devon ones.
The fourth is of Looe, identified by the bridge.
Later
A print of this scene has now been found. It is of Brixham, which is in Devon, so I will have to a. see if the print scans better than the negative and, if it doesn't, correct the caption on the image! (Even later) It didn't and I have!

A small group of four photos, taken by my father in 1936-7. They were scanned from negatives, which included some for which there are prints, in an album dated 1936. I think that the orientation of this one is correct, as there is a sign on the ironmongers to the right of the ships, that reads the right way round.
A print has now been found in an album showing this scene as in Brixham in September 1937. The print is quite dark so this version will stay.

A small group of four photos, taken by my father in 1936-8. They were scanned from negatives, which included some for which there are prints in an album dated 1936. In this one the ship's name is clear enough to read, so I know which way round this scene should be.
4/7/2020 A rather dark print has now turned up, identifying this scene as Bridport in Dorset.
