This memorial to Edward Alleyn, is in the centre of London's Dulwich Village. Having amassed great wealth as an actor and impresario in the reign of Elizabeth I, he bought land on what was then the outskirts of London. He founded and endowed Dulwich College and Alleyn's Almshouses. There is a concise but detailed biography at www.shakespeare-online.com/biography/edwardalleyn.html . In a time, in the early 21st century, when there were a number of thefts of sculptures by metal thieves, the boy was stolen, but fortunately recovered.
