Are there / has there ever been a memorial to the 'glorious victory' by the Norman invasion in 1066?

The Battle of Hastings was actually fought further inland. Battle Abbey was built by William as a penitential offering for the loss of life in the battle. So in effect that was a war memorial, on a grand scale. Of course Henry VIII took his anger at the Catholic Church out on it, as he did to abbeys and monasteries across the country. What remains can be seen at -

In the town's church nearby there is a window commemorating the battle, with a more accurate name for its location - Senlac Hill.

Thanks Phil. Looking at these has lead to further reading. I don't remember ever knowing that there was a crown to be claimed due to no heir, and all the internal fighting and the invading activity that followed.
