The Station pub Uckfield 24 9 2022

The Station pub Uckfield 24 9 2022
The sign on this pub in the middle of Sussex, midway between London and the south coast, shows a branchline station somewhere in the West Country with two small Great Western tank engines and an autocoach of a GWR design. Autocoaches operated in a push and pull arrangement, with suitably modified engines, that allowed the driver to control the engine, from the coach, when that was leading. I suspect that the sign was bought 'off-the-peg' without any regard for the appropriateness of the image to the pub's location.

Andy Rodker, Stephan Fey, Paolo Tanino have particularly liked this photo

Well at least it gave you something to make a comment on and as pub signs go, this goes!

A nice enough sign for somewhere down west. If you have an interest in something like railways, you notice anomalies like this. There was a pub sign on the Somerset & Dorset Hotel in Burnham-on-Sea, well after the line there was cut, which had a picture of one of the Somerset and Dorset's big 2-8-0 goods engines, which wasn't allowed up the 25 mile plus rural line from Evercreech to Burnham.
