Reflections in the New River ..

New River State Park *New River State Park is open. The government shut down has not affected the State Parks. ... * Make an Online Reservation or Call 1-877-722-6762 View of the New River Horseshoe Bend (336) 982-2587 new.river@ncparks.gov 358 New River State Park Road, Laurel Springs, NC 28644 GPS: 36.467680, -81.340350 Rugged hillsides, pastoral meadows and farmlands surround what is believed to be one of the oldest rivers in North America the New River. Its waters are slow and placid. Its banks are fertile and covered with wildflowers. Dedicated as a National Scenic River in 1976, this gentle river is the centerpiece of New River State Park. The New River area still maintains an old-fashioned charm. Mountain roads are narrow and winding, dotted with small farms, churches and country stores. The river itself is tranquil, offering good bass fishing, trout streams, excellent birding and inspiring mountain scenery. But perhaps the best way to absorb and appreciate the river's peacefulness is from the seat of a canoe as it glides across the slow-moving waters. Four areas with access to this waterway make up more than 2,200 acres of New River State Park and provide spots for camping, canoeing, picnicking and fishing. Due to conditions beyond our control, in most cases using the park's address in any brand of vehicle GPS unit will not give you directions to the central park area, U.S. Hwy 221 access. This location is misidentified on the master map that these units use to pinpoint addresses. Instead, we suggest using either the actual GPS coordinates, 36.467680,-81.340350, or the following address exactly as typed: 10000 U.S. 221, NC

in black and white - 'Another Link in the Chain' .. linking an outdoor animal sculpture to these whimsical outdoor sculptures .. .. outside Ashe County Cheese Company .. Elsie 1 and her other sisters Elsie are new to us (Ashe County Cheese has a FaceBook page-the cow sculptures were made by the Ashe County High School Welding Class) © All Rights Reserved "The Ashe County Cheese Factory has been producing fine, quality cheese since 1930. It began when the Kraft Corporation helped communities consolidate several small plants into one larger one where cheddar daisy wheels could be produced for the entire country. Kraft operated the plant for many years and sold it in 1975. After that, the factory itself and company have changed hands several times until 2004 when the plant and store companies were split into two separate companies. The cheese-making factory plant and the store across the street have all undergone numerous renovations and upgrades over the decades. The Ashe County Cheese Factory posts Cheese Making Schedule times for daily viewing times when you and your group can stop in and see cheese being made. The plant viewing room allows you to see the day to day operation and how cheese is made and shipped. If you visit the Ashe County Cheese Factory cheese store across the street you can purchase numerous cheese varieties, as well as other types of locally crafted food items and handmade fineries such as hand milled soaps. The Ashe County Cheese Factory is a small, unassuming factory that welcomes you to stop in and see cheese being made. If you and your kids love cheese - this is the place to stop! In addition to the Ashe County Cheese Factory."
