I started off with visits to a couple of locations in Croydon - managed to squeeze onto the Almshouses tour as a result of a non-arrival. We were shown round by a resident and the Whitgift Foundation marketing manager. The tour was informative and comprehensive.

Foundation stone
The almshouses were established in 1596 by John Whitgift, Archbishop of Canterbury
The quadrangle
Once you enter the almshouses, you are in this central quadrangle. The residents' apartments are situated around the quad

The Old Palace
Most of the Palace site today dates from the 15th and 16th century, but it is thought that there have been buildings here for a thousand years or more.
This is now part of the Old Palace School, of the Whitgift Foundation.
