Bletchley Park 2013 and 2014
Folder: Great Britain
A day trip in 2013 to Bletchley Park, where the German enigma codes were broken during World War II. It's an incredibly interesting place. Many of the buildings were closed when we were there, so I may need to revisit.
UPDATE: I went back in 2014 and got to see the inside of the mansion as well as several of the huts.

Bletchley Park Mansion
Day trip to Bletchley Park, where the Brits worked to break the German enigma codes, and pretty much invented modern computing, during WWII. Unfortunately, we couldn't get in to see the interior because there was filming going on -- a movie called The Imitation Game. The mansion house is also seen in the opening of The Bletchley Circle episodes.
Update: I saw The Imitation Game, and they used an entirely different mansion house (Joyce Grove, Nettlebed, Oxfordshire) for the exterior shots, which really makes no sense. But I think some of the interior shots were done inside.
Bletchley Park Mansion Roof
Recognize that green dome from The Bletchley Circle (or any number of Brit WWII dramas)?
Griffin (front)
I think this is the best griffin I've ever seen. At the front entrance to the mansion, Bletchley Park.
Griffin (side)
Pair of fab griffin at the front entrance to the mansion, Bletchley Park.
Movie Extras
The day we were at Bletchley Park, there was filming going on of the movie The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch (as Alan Turing) and Keira Knightly. We only saw the extras.
Soldiers
The day we were at Bletchley Park, there was filming going on of the movie The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch (as Alan Turing) and Keira Knightly. We only saw the extras -- these guys were at the craft service truck.
Car Shed Door
Apparently, there are a bunch of vintage cars behind these doors.
Fire Buckets
Next to the car shed, where the vintage cars are kept.
Our Tour Guide
Our guide was incredibly knowledgeable and informative. I've seen scads of movies and tv programmes about the breaking of the enigma code, but I never understood how the machine worked until he demonstrated it.
