Label: Before he left for England in 1871, Tissot was one of the most sought-after portraitists of chic Paris society, partly due to his skill for placing his haughty sitters in lavish settings suggestive of wealth and sophistication. This portrait shows the president of the exclusive Jockey Club in Paris.
