Portrait of the Emperor Constantius Chlorus in the Vatican Museum, July 2012

Portrait of the Emperor Constantius Chlorus in the Vatican Museum, July 2012
Inventory # 1981

The marked features created with deep incisions, indicate that this is the father of Constantine, Constantius Chlorus. A brave soldier originally from Illyria, he was named successor to Maximian already in 293 AD and, with the title of Caesar, governed the empire between 305 and 306 AD.

Text from the Vatican Museum label.
