Head of a Centaur

Asian Marble

From the Horti Lamiani, found in the area near Piazza Vittorio Emmanuele in 1874.

Inventory # MC 1137

The stylistic similarity with the group of Sperlonga, depicting Polyphemus being blinded, relates this work to the Tiberian age and confirms its inspiration from Rhodian-Pergamene models.

Text from the Capitoline Museum label.
