Vintage Packaging

Vintage Packaging
Taken inside an antiques centre in Wickham, Hampshire.

I couldn't find out much about most of this stuff, except that this vintage packing is a popular seller on the web.

Lutona - was made in the Co-op's cocoa processing plant in Luton from 1902. The factory was demolished in 1970, but I have no idea when the product ceased being sold.

Borwicks - was made in London from around 1844. As far as I know it is still being made in Rotherham, by Kerry Food.

Allinson - their baking yeast was introduced in 1892. The firm is still going today selling bread and baking products.

Orlox - I couldn't find any details, except that this packing was popular in the 1930's.

Best viewed large for more detail. Miss Orlox looks particularly lovely :-)

Diane Putnam, trester88, Annemarie, Colin Ashcroft and 8 other people have particularly liked this photo

I don't remember Lutona or Orlox, but remember the middle two very well. Allinson still a name we see in the shops, as you mention. Love the old nostalgic packaging. Very good framing too Keith.

Glad you like them Rosa. I find these sort of things fascinating. This was a bit of a sneaky shot, as the mill owners aren't that keen on photography inside ;-(

It's fascinating isn't it...............my fave is the Miss Orlox one, even though it's not very PC nowadays.

Thanks for dropping in Gudrun.

Great label oldies! Malted milk cocoa with eggs...ew...I feel a little woozy. Super photo, I like the sort of fade-out frame around it.
