My liverwort and moss garden
Today it was about minus two (C -- that's like 28F) but the sun was warm and there has still been no snow that lasted more than an hour on the ground. I checked out my potted mosses and liverworts and saw they were happy with their year's activity.
Mostly on the left are the mosses, with their sporophytes stuck up in the air like spears, and mostly on the right are the liverworts with their archegoniophores stuck up like broken umbrellas.
In the very background of the picture are some very late snapdragon flowers (the pink spots); I suspect if we had a few days of warmth they'd open up.
