A in his kitchen
Although he has been a friend of one of my own friends for fifty years, I
never met A until a couple of days ago when I dropped by to chat . . . and
to buy his 1960s-model Robot Royal III camera. A lovely man, at 92 he has
finally and fully retired from his lifelong business (he was an
optometrist) and says he's a little bored now. Since he turned seventy, by
the way, and in his part-retirement, he went back to school twice, first
for a PhD degree on top of his optometry qualification, and secondly for a
master's degree in Dead Sea Scrolls translation. A man with amazingly
catholic interests and abilities. Perhaps he'll go back to school again
soon.
I'm looking forward to using the Robot. I've long wanted one. It's a
peculiar camera though and I am taking my time getting it in operation.
