Still Some Color Out There...

...but it's spotty. This photo is sort of the opposite view of a picture I took for 366 Snaps , which I'll put in the first comment. That photo was taken near the high point in this pic--the silo in that pic was about a half-mile to my right when I shot this one. Benton Township, Michigan.

Where the Dimondale Dam Was

24 Oct 2014 2 1 235
Michigan's Grand River was dammed at this location in 1850 by Isaac Dimond, who laid out a village around the dam, called Dimondale, in 1856 (I'm leaving out a lot of complications). Dimond build a sawmill in what's now Lions Community Park, and a grist mill in the present (and brand new) Danford Island Park. This photo was taken from Island; Lions is on the far shore of the river. After some rebuilds of the dam and both mills the village thrived as a mill town, supporting settlers and farmers in Windsor Township, southwest of Lansing. The 1880 incarnation of the dam was removed in September of 2006 and replaced with what the village and the state call a "W" weir. Who am I to argue with that description? I had a Dimondale address for about a dozen years, though I've never lived in the village. It's now pretty much a Lansing suburb, though the town seems to resist the description.

And fall colors on the dunes.... We spent the afternoon wandering around Hoffmaster State Park on the Lake Michigan shore. Got lost, wore ourselves out, had a good time.

A Bit of Color Along the Grand

I've been playing with DxO's OpticsPro photo processing software all afternoon. Thought I'd share a few examples. Another photo from last week's wander along the Grand in Grand Ledge. I was basically playing with the sliders, here, trying to turn a dull day into something brighter. I think it came out well.

I've been playing with DxO's OpticsPro photo processing software all afternoon. Thought I'd share a few examples. One of the features DxO is advertising for the 10th version of OpticsPro is a technology they call ClearView , a haze removal tool. This is a test: Compare a version I posted of this photo a few years back , processed using Photoshop Elements. The new version's better.

Still sorting through old photographs. This one's from 2005. What this photo doesn't capture is the incredible sound all these large birds make.

Pond @ Baker Sanctuary

There's something about Michigan Audubon's Baker Sanctuary that brings out my Art Photo tendencies. Keep your eye on this space.... Photo taken 10/9/2004.
