Core Storage Building: Door
Another picture of the formidable buildings at the Calumet and Hecla/Red Jacket mine site in Calumet, Michigan.
This building was used for storing cores--samples made by drilling into the earth just to see what the rock contained, deep underground.

Silver River Falls
Near Eagle Harbor, extreme northern Michigan. Considering that the falls are accessible from the highway, that there are always photographers wandering around the place, and the the falls and bridge are quite picturesque, there are really very few photos of the place on the web....
Walking on the Edge
Joan, on the Escarpment Trail above Lake of the Clouds in Michigan's Porcupine Mountains State Park.
J.W. Foster and Josiah Whitney, who surveyed the Lake Superior mineral deposits for Congress in the middle of the nineteenth century, included an engraving of this lake, which was then called "Carp Lake" (the river remains the Big Carp-- see msprague's comment , below ). It seems that the Porkies were already a tourist destination at that time.
Lake of the Clouds is clearly a preferable denomination....

Lake Superior Sunset
Michigan's McLain State Park on the Keweenaw Peninsula, looking west over Lake Superior. The lake has unpredictable weather--even in August--but you're likely to witness glorious sunsets. Like this one.
Shot with a cheap Kodak panoramic point-n-shoot. You'll see more from this set, as the entire roll turned out well. August 1998.
Explored, # 371 on Friday, October 4, 2013. Thanks!
