Upper Peninsula
Photographs taken in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. (I'm a troll, but not by design.)

Covington , Michigan. For many years we routinely vacationed in the U.P. in autumn. On this trip we happened to glance down US-141 and see this "New England" church, so we stopped to shoot a picture. September of 1985.
Bethany's fairly famous in some quarters. I remember Ernie Sandeen discussing the interior artwork in his Architectural History class at Macalester.
Here's the church history from the congregation's perspective . And there's information about the building's artwork here.

The New Viewing Platform

Overlooking the locks at Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. The lower level is wheelchair accessible (and fully enclosed in glass, which will be a blessing on cold days but a problem for photographers). The upper level is mostly open.
Nokomis & CSL Tadoussac in the locks, just barely visible.
The observation deck's nicely executed and quite attractive. And enormous.

From MacArthur Lock, aboard the Soo tour boat Nokomis . The tower's attractive from this side, too. This view shows all the glass, which will bother serious photographers (but help control the cold, which is worthwhile). At least they left most of the upper platform open.

We spent much of our St. Ignace weekend watching this family from the room's balcony.

On the Sturgeon River, Baraga County, Michigan. A short walk into the woods from a rest area on US-41.
Yup. We're back from vacation.

Vierling's Restaurant, Marquette, Michigan.
This is their classic wheat, which may have some other name. It's a decent beer. Reportedly the brewpub's best offering is their blueberry wheat, but I'm not in a position to testify.

This is the same flume as yesterday's photo , from a different angle. Right at the downriver end of the canyon which defines the waterfall and the rapids below the fall.
