Water Mill on the River Aure, Bayeux, with Bayeux Cathedral - Sept 2010

Water Mill on the River Aure, Bayeux, with Bayeux Cathedral - Sept 2010
View from Rue Saint Jean, Bayeux, Normandy, France.
Bayeux Cathedral is the place where Duke Harold of England swore an oath to support William, Duke of Normandy in his claim to the English throne. Harold later claimed the throne for himself, precipitating the successful invasion of England by 'William the Conqueror' and his Norman forces in 1066. Many of the descendants of those Norman settlers, British and American, 'invaded' 'Normandy in 1944. Bayeux was the first major French town to be liberated in that action.
