Cypripedium reginae (Showy Lady's-Slipper orchid)

The first stop of the morning was the Lomond River Trail parking lot, where we were to meet Andrus Voitk, his wife Maria, and several other knowledgeable friends of his. Andrus and Maria, the authors of Orchids on the Rock: The Wild Orchids of Newfoundland, had promised to show us a few of the rare orchids in the immediate area.

When Walter and I arrived at the parking lot, Chris walked over to greet us. He is an early riser and had been there for several hours. Chris was kind enough to show us the splendid Cypripedium reginae orchids that he had located, including a rare triple-flowered one. My goal was to photograph some flowers with a uniformly dark red pouch. These were fairly easy to locate, and now I could strike one more item from my list...
