Caolopgon tuberosus (Common grass-pink orchid)

Just a short morning trip up the road to shoot more spring flowers. I was fortunate to find some really colorful ones on this trip.

Calopogon tuberosus (Common grass-pink orchid) is one of my favorites to shoot. This year, it has outdone itself in a cataract bog area of the upstate. This is where water flows over a granite bald in such a way to provide constant moisture for plants along its edges. This particular orchid just loves to be near water, but in this case, it is growing in less than two inches of soil which is overlaying solid rock!
