(+ good news, - not good news)
+ Easy parking in Botley park CP, from where there's a footpath and footbridge leading directly into Osney
+ There were a few bright spells
+ I got 3 pictures, run-of-the-mill ones which you'll rubbish, but all (for me) new and original shots
+ I discovered a new waterside route from the Isis South of Osney into the city centre, having crossed the the river before reaching Grandpont. Not specially picturesque but new to me.
+ The Covered Market was busy, lively and Christmassy
+ I had my egg and bacon bap in Browns, and the owner's daughter, now in her 30's, and who I remember as a teenager, was back serving there, having returned from London where she'd lived for 10 years..
+ The old printworks is now a cycle shop with a rustic cafeteria called "The Handle Bar", open until 3, according to the sign outside it
+ The scaffolding on St Mary's Church has been removed
+ I discovered the hydroelectric plant at Osney Lock - moderately interesting
+ Although Browns was busy ,and when I ordered my lunch at the counter there were no free tables, two talkative young men sitting at a table for 3 allowed me to sit there.
- No pork pies - the shop in the Covered Market had sold out
- The bacon and egg bap wasn't very nice
- No outdoor Christmas Market
- The Sheldonian is covered in sheeting, preventing my re-taking the Bridge of Sighs looking in that direction as planned
- The old power station(?) building near Osney Bridge has been demolished, though parts of the Victorian outer walls have been preserved in situ
- When, at around 1pm I arrived as planned at "The Handle Bar" for post lunch coffee, it was closed.
- Before my bap arrived (fortunately in the meantime, a window ledge seat was vacated) in order to preserve my sanity I had to move PDQ because every single sentence either man uttered contained an "is like", "was like" or "I'm like".
But overall worth coming.
Did you cross by the gasworks bridge?
