British Waterways and the West End Partnership (the ones that "improved" Bonn Square) have now "improved" the Hythe Bridge pocket park at the entrance to the Oxford Canal, by felling mature trees along the river bank and installing shiny metal trash cans and benches that are out of keeping with the general ambience of the area.

Why couldn't we have some traditional-style park seats with back rests?

Answer: Because the council is scared people might sleep on them.
