Black Gold

In case anyone is curious, here's the settings I used to achieve my shot: The camera was a Sony Alpha SLT-a77v, the shooting program was manual (as is 99.9% of my shots), the ISO was set at 400, the focal length was 260mm, the aperture was f/6.3 and shutter speed was 1/40 of a second. Here's an older shot of the same well, taken in the daytime to show what it looks like:

great silhouette in a lovely evening light

Great industrial (and harsh) silhouette, set against a sky wih soft colours. Fine combination.

Many years ago I was driving through the night in the US. I stopped at a rest stop in Wyoming in the dark. We heard a noise but had no idea what it was. When we awoke in the morning we saw this sight, x 100 more of them pumping away.

The sound is almost like Willy Wonka's factory!
