I've not been into the history of Chrysler in Australia. The cars I remember from this period are the Chrysler Royal and the Dodge Phoenix. Can you recommend a Chrysler website to look at?

That looks amazing. I suppose it helps that it is in a place with a dry climate.

There are many reasons for the quantity of restored / preserved cars from Australia and other places. In the 40s,50s, 60s & 70s US cars were better suited to local conditions than British cars. They also conferred status in their day and have become popular again. Holdens and the racing Ford sedans are the more common local targets for preserving.

The dry climate helps though the coastal climate is a hazard. No one spreads salt on our roads due to the (welcome) lack of snow. Fuel here is a lower cost here compared with Europe so large motors are less of a problem. In the SE Qld area there seems to be a greater concentration of these than other regions I'm familiar with, which is pleasant. I'd like to be able to justify doing up my green Holden... www.ipernity.com/doc/grahamh/30739521

If it is a U.S. built Chrysler converted to right side drive it is definitely a 1955 "model year".
They were built in the latter half of 1954 and the early half of 1955.

We have a dry climate in Arizona that prevents them from rusting too much but the sun burns the paint off.
I don't have any pics of a nice one yet. ; )

Thank you. Australia definitely wasn't building anything like this then. It would have to be USA built.

This article summarises the Chrysler car in Australia. I recall the ute version having 'Dodge' as the brand name on their tailgates.

Yes, I think that the Chargers are better looking than its local built equivalents. (Don't tell anyone I said that, my preferred older car is this:

They went well. The comparable GM car is described in this article.

The stolen Pursuit Special (driven by the "Nightrider") that Max was chasing in the beginning of the film was a 1972 Holden Monaro HQ coupe.
It was also wicked cool !! }: )

I've not seen MM movies.

In Australia in the 60s and 70s there was a race, the highlight of sedan racing, at Bathurst in NSW which was 500 miles and with metrication 1000 Km. The rules for this format had to be road registrable. This was a focus for Ford, Holden and Chrysler.

Holden's first serious attempt with the first Monaro in 1968. The last racing Monaro was the HQ though there was also had the LJ Torana GTR XU-1 which was developed in parallel which won the 1972 race. Chrysler had Pacers and then Chargers as their combatants. Then changes in race rules and demands from TV networks took the focus away from locally developed cars.

Some info you may not have thought to look for.
