The Up Westlander hauled by 2488 & 1720 running through the first crossing loop, Range View, on the Brisbane side of Toowoomba. It is crossing a Down coal empty. December 2013.

Gillian Everett, have particularly liked this photo

Thanks for the 'like'. Australia, like the UK doesn't have much in the way of mountains so there aren't many opportunities for shots of railways in mountains. Italy has real mountains.

Interesting perspective. Australia does have quite a few mountain ranges, but railways seem to be mainly along the flat at the coast with the exception of the Ghan, and the one to Longreach.
Re roads, the new Coffs harbour bypass should be interesting as it looks like there will be a few tunnels through elevated land (probably hills rather than mountains)

Thanks Gillian. The railway North of Coffs looks a bit mountainous, I had a ride in the diesel on a train Coffs to Grafton years ago. From what I've seen of other countries Australian mountains are mostly unspectacular. We lived in the Blue Mountains for a decade and there are only small parts of that railway which look mountainous.
